The challenge

The Food Escape Box combines dinner with an escape room, right at home. Owner Veerle wanted a website as mysterious as the game itself, one that makes visitors so curious they want to order. Players who get stuck also needed somewhere to turn.

Our solution

We designed a dark, mysterious website that captures the feeling of an escape room straight away and raises questions instead of giving everything away.

  • A simple order form to request a box
  • A hint page for players who get stuck, just like in a real escape room
  • Live chat that sends messages straight to Veerle’s phone
  • An atmospheric, dark design that sparks curiosity

The result

More than 1,000 Food Escape Boxes were sold in the first year. Stuck players find help on the hint page, and live chat keeps Veerle in direct contact with her customers wherever she is.

A website where the mystery begins

The Food Escape Box is an escape room experience paired with dinner, played at home. Veerle wanted that suspense to be felt on the website already. Not explaining everything, but making people curious. So we went for a dark, atmospheric design with a secretive feel. Visitors see just enough to want to know what’s inside the box.

Ordering without friction

Once people are hooked, ordering should be quick. A clear order form lets you request your own Food Escape Box. Simple, straightforward and free of unnecessary steps, so the excitement doesn’t fade.

Help when you’re stuck

In a real escape room you get a hint when you’re stuck, and we brought that idea to the website. Players who can’t move forward during the game find a nudge in the right direction on the hint page, without the answer being given away.

Always reachable via live chat

For questions there’s a live chat. Veerle receives messages directly on her phone, so she can help customers quickly and personally, wherever she happens to be.

The result

The website was a hit: more than 1,000 Food Escape Boxes were sold in the first year. Proof that a website with character inspires people to act.

Why character works

A product built on suspense and surprise needs a website that amplifies that feeling. By starting the experience online and supporting players during the game, the website has become part of the experience itself.
